Best SecureDocs alternatives for fundraising and due diligence

SecureDocs is a flat-fee VDR with unlimited users that is quick to set up, but it has no API, no mobile app, no page-level analytics and no full-text search, and since the 2022 Onit acquisition its roadmap has moved to contract management. This guide ranks 10 alternatives for fundraising and due diligence, with pricing, ownership history, use cases and a migration plan.

TL;DR: the best SecureDocs alternatives for fundraising and due diligence

  • SecureDocs is no longer an independent company. It was acquired by Onit in January 2022 and now sits inside a legal-operations portfolio focused on contract lifecycle management, not data rooms. The VDR has not changed materially since.
  • Best overall alternative: Papermark. A secure, modern data room with unlimited rooms from $99/month, page-level investor analytics, NDA gating, custom domains and a self-hosted option. It covers both fundraising and due diligence at any deal size without a sales call.
  • Best for mid-market due diligence: iDeals. Mature permissions, Q&A and redaction with an estimated ~$150/month entry point.
  • Best if you want an enterprise M&A vendor: Firmex or Datasite. Both are owned by Datasite (Firmex since 2021), so you are choosing one family of tools with two price points.
  • Skip pure file-sharing tools (Dropbox, Google Drive, Box) for diligence. They lack NDA gating, granular viewer permissions and deal-grade audit logs.

What happened to SecureDocs?

SecureDocs earned a loyal following between 2014 and 2021 by doing one thing that most virtual data rooms refused to do: publishing a flat price. At $250 per month on an annual plan (or $400 per month billed quarterly) you received unlimited users, unlimited documents, NDA gating and a room that could be live in about ten minutes. For a founder raising a seed round or a small company selling itself for the first time, that was a genuine relief compared to the quote-only pricing of Intralinks, Datasite or Firmex.

The company itself has a different story. SecureDocs was built inside AppFolio in Santa Barbara, spun out as an independent business in 2014, and grew into a small suite: the SecureDocs VDR, ContractWorks for contract management and ReadySign for e-signatures. In January 2022 the whole company was acquired by Onit, a Houston-based legal operations vendor backed by K1 Investment Management. Onit described the deal as its largest acquisition to date and was explicit about the rationale: extend Onit's contract lifecycle management (CLM) reach into the mid-market. The data room was part of the package, not the reason for it.

  1. 2012

SecureDocs is created as an internal product at AppFolio, the property-management software company, to give SMBs an affordable virtual data room.

  2. 2014

SecureDocs spins out as an independent company in Santa Barbara, California, and doubles down on flat-fee pricing with unlimited users.

  3. 2016-2020

The company adds ContractWorks (contract management) and ReadySign (e-signatures). The VDR remains the entry product but roadmap investment shifts toward contracts.

  4. January 2022

Onit acquires SecureDocs. Onit, backed by K1 Investment Management, positions the deal as broadening its CLM portfolio for legal operations teams outside the Fortune 500.

  5. 2022-2026

SecureDocs continues to be sold as part of Onit's portfolio. The data room keeps its flat price and its 2010s-era feature set: no API, no mobile app, no OCR search, no page-level analytics.

Why teams look for SecureDocs alternatives in 2026

We spoke with founders, M&A advisors and finance leads who have run at least one process on SecureDocs. Their complaints cluster into seven themes, and almost all of them map directly to either fundraising or due diligence workflows.

  1. No investor-level engagement analytics. SecureDocs logs who opened a folder and downloaded a file. It does not tell you that a partner at your lead VC spent four minutes on the cap table and eleven seconds on the go-to-market slide. For fundraising, that page-level signal is the whole point of using a data room instead of an email attachment.
  2. No full-text or OCR search. Buyers in due diligence search for terms like "change of control", "indemnification" or "exclusivity" across hundreds of PDFs. SecureDocs can only search filenames, which pushes reviewers back to downloading everything.
  3. No API and no mobile app. You cannot automate room creation from your CRM, sync documents from your DMS, or let an investor review from a phone between meetings.
  4. Interface that has not evolved. Reviewers consistently describe the SecureDocs UI as functional but dated. When a data room is the first product a Series A investor or strategic acquirer touches, that impression carries into how they perceive your company.
  5. Limited document controls. There is no built-in redaction, no bulk watermark configuration by group, and no viewer-level expiry on individual files. Teams end up redacting in Acrobat and re-uploading.
  6. Brand and roadmap uncertainty. Since the 2022 Onit acquisition the public roadmap has centered on CLM and legal operations. Nobody at SecureDocs is shipping the AI folder structures, engagement scoring or self-hosting options that newer platforms treat as table stakes.
  7. The flat fee is not that flat anymore. $250 per month is $3,000 per year, paid up front, for a single company. Modern tools like Papermark start at $99 per month on annual billing, or for unlimited data rooms, and several include a free tier for a first raise.

None of this makes SecureDocs a bad product. It is still one of the simplest rooms to set up, it still has strong Capterra and G2 ease-of-use scores, and for a company that only needs a locked folder with an NDA in front of it, it works. The rest of this guide is for teams that need more than that.

How we ranked the alternatives

Fundraising and due diligence stress a data room in different ways, so we scored every vendor on both. The fundraising criteria were: time to a live, branded room; NDA and email-verification gating; page-level analytics per investor; custom domain and branding; and price for a 6 to 9 month raise. The due diligence criteria were: folder and file-level permissions by viewer group; Q&A or request tracking; watermarking and download controls; audit logs a buyer's counsel will accept; and search across the document set.

We also tracked two things most "alternatives" articles ignore: who owns the vendor (because acquisitions change roadmaps, as SecureDocs shows) and how pricing behaves at the end of a process, when page counts, user counts and extension fees tend to surprise teams. Ratings are the aggregated review scores shown on each vendor profile on this site. No vendor paid for placement.

The 10 best SecureDocs alternatives in 2026

1Best overall SecureDocs alternative for fundraising and due diligenceBest overall

Papermark

Papermark is a secure, modern virtual data room that fixes the exact gaps SecureDocs users complain about: page-by-page investor analytics, AI-generated folder structures, custom domains, NDA gating, dynamic watermarking and enterprise-grade security, at a published price with no sales call. It is the platform we recommend to founders, advisors and deal teams from a first seed round to large sell-side processes.

Best for

Fundraising from seed to growth rounds, sell-side and buy-side due diligence at any deal size, advisors running repeat processes

Pricing

Free plan; Data Rooms $99/mo on annual billing, with unlimited rooms; Data Rooms Plus $249/mo adds the Q&A module and audit log export; Enterprise (on request) adds SSO and full white-label. See Papermark pricing

Ownership

Independent, founder-led, no private-equity roll-up

Compliance

SOC 2, GDPR and HIPAA, AES-256 encryption, EU or US hosting, self-hosting available

Setup time

Under 10 minutes with AI folder structure generation

Rating

4.8/5 across 120+ reviews

Strengths

  • Page-level engagement analytics per viewer. You see which investor opened which document, how long they spent on each page, and when they came back. This is the single biggest upgrade over SecureDocs for a fundraising process.
  • Unlimited data rooms on one plan. Run a fundraising room, a customer due diligence room and a board room simultaneously without paying per room or per project.
  • NDA gating, email verification and viewer groups. Require a click-through NDA or a verified email before anyone sees a file, then assign folder-level permissions per group (lead investor, syndicate, legal, buyer team).
  • Custom domains and full white-labeling. Investors open dataroom.yourcompany.com with your logo and colors, not a vendor's subdomain. This is unavailable on SecureDocs.
  • Enterprise-grade security. SOC 2, GDPR and HIPAA, AES-256 encryption, EU or US data residency and a self-hosted option for regulated companies. The code is also open source, so technical teams can audit exactly what runs on their infrastructure.
  • Transparent pricing with no per-page or per-user fees. The Data Rooms plan covers 3 team members and unlimited external viewers (more seats on Plus and Enterprise); there are no overage bills at closing.
  • API and integrations. Automate room creation from your CRM or ATS, push documents from your DMS, and export analytics.

Considerations

  • Younger brand than Intralinks or Datasite. Some bulge-bracket bankers still propose the incumbents by habit, so expect to walk them through the room.
  • Deal workflow tooling (structured Q&A queues, request lists) is lighter than iDeals or Ansarada, which matters for very large buy-side reviews.
  • Self-hosting is powerful but requires a technical owner on your side.

When Papermark is the right choice

Choose Papermark if you are raising a round, selling a company, or running recurring diligence for clients and you want SecureDocs' simplicity with modern analytics, enterprise security, branding and a lower price. Compare it directly in our Papermark vs SecureDocs breakdown.

2Best SecureDocs alternative for mid-market due diligence

iDeals

iDeals is the most complete traditional VDR that still feels approachable for a non-banker. It brings the structured Q&A, redaction, eight levels of document permissions and multi-language support that SecureDocs never built, with an entry price that stays in SMB territory.

Best for

Sell-side and buy-side due diligence on $5M to $250M deals, advisors handling multiple bidders

Pricing

Not published. Core plan estimated around $150/month; Premier and Enterprise are custom. See iDeals pricing

Ownership

Independent, privately held, headquartered in London with US operations

Founded

2008

Rating

4.7/5

Strengths

  • Granular permissions down to fence-view (on-screen barrier that blocks screenshots) and view-only modes per user group.
  • Built-in Q&A with expert assignment, question routing and export to Excel for the buyer's legal team.
  • Redaction, OCR and full-text search across the document set, which SecureDocs lacks entirely.
  • Nine global data centers and 25+ interface languages for cross-border processes.

Considerations

  • No public price list. You will negotiate, and quotes vary with data volume and duration.
  • Fundraising-specific features (custom domains, per-investor engagement scoring) are lighter than Papermark's.
  • Setup is fast for experienced users but new admins face a steeper learning curve than SecureDocs.
3Best SecureDocs alternative for compliance-heavy due diligence

Firmex

Firmex is a Toronto-built VDR with SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and HIPAA coverage, structured Q&A and automatic document versioning. It is the platform SecureDocs users usually shortlist when a regulated buyer, a lender or outside counsel insists on a "real" M&A data room.

Best for

Lower-middle-market M&A, regulated industries (healthcare, financial services), law firms

Pricing

Quote-based; typically $5k to $30k per year or a single-project fee. See Firmex pricing

Ownership

Acquired by Datasite in July 2021 from Vertu Capital and BDC Capital. Datasite is itself owned by CapVest Partners and also acquired Ansarada in 2024

Founded

2006, Toronto

Rating

4.6/5

Strengths

  • Triple compliance coverage (SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR, HIPAA) with TLS 1.3 and AWS KMS encryption.
  • Structured Q&A workflows with role-based routing, plus automatic version control on every upload.
  • OCR search, iOS offline vault and time-per-page reporting.
  • Onboarding measured in hours, not days, and support that consistently scores well in reviews.

Considerations

  • Quote-only pricing, so the entry cost is opaque and usually several times a SecureDocs subscription.
  • Analytics are audit-oriented rather than fundraising-oriented. You will not get investor engagement scores.
  • Post-acquisition, Firmex, Datasite and Ansarada share an owner. Expect roadmap consolidation over time.
4Best SecureDocs alternative for document security on a budget

Digify

Digify combines a lightweight data room with strong document-level protection: dynamic watermarks, screen-shield, print and download blocking, and self-destructing files. For teams whose main worry is leakage rather than deal workflow, it is a strong SecureDocs replacement.

Best for

Sharing sensitive financials with a small number of counterparties, IP-heavy startups, investor updates

Pricing

From $140/month; higher tiers add data room features. See Digify pricing

Ownership

Independent, privately held, Singapore and US offices

Rating

4.5/5

Strengths

  • Document controls SecureDocs never offered: screen-shield, expiry, remote revoke and print blocking.
  • Fast setup and a clean interface that non-technical users like.
  • Reasonable entry price with per-user rather than per-page pricing.

Considerations

  • Q&A and permissions are simpler than iDeals or Firmex for multi-bidder diligence.
  • Analytics are solid at the file level but thinner than Papermark's page-level, per-investor tracking.
  • Storage and user caps on lower tiers can bite during a long process.
5Best SecureDocs alternative for banker-led enterprise M&A

Datasite

Datasite (formerly Merrill DataSite) is the platform your investment bank will propose when your exit passes nine figures. AI document tagging, redaction, granular reporting and 24/7 support are all there. So is per-page pricing.

Best for

Sell-side processes run by investment banks, cross-border M&A, IPO preparation

Pricing

Quote-based, typically around $0.60 per page; a 10,000-page room runs roughly $6,000, 100,000 pages about $60,000. See Datasite pricing

Ownership

Separated from Donnelley Financial (Merrill) in 2020, owned by CapVest Partners. Acquired Firmex (2021) and Ansarada (2024)

Rating

4.7/5

Strengths

  • AI-assisted document indexing, tagging and redaction that materially speeds up room preparation on large document sets.
  • Deep permission matrices, Q&A, bidder-level analytics and a track record bankers trust.
  • Global support and data residency options for cross-border deals.

Considerations

  • Per-page pricing makes total cost unpredictable and usually 10x to 30x a SecureDocs subscription.
  • Over-engineered for a seed or Series A raise; investors will not use most of it.
  • Enterprise sales cycle and contract terms.
7Best SecureDocs alternative for AI-guided deal readiness

Ansarada

Ansarada wraps the data room in checklists, readiness scoring and AI-driven bidder engagement predictions. For a first-time seller who wants the platform to tell them what is missing, that structure is valuable. For a founder running a seed round, it is overhead.

Best for

Sell-side readiness programs, boards and governance teams, repeatable deal playbooks

Pricing

Not published; quote builder on the Ansarada site, free to set up and billed when the room goes live. See Ansarada pricing

Ownership

Sydney-founded, ASX-listed from 2020, acquired by Datasite in August 2024 (approximately A$236M)

Rating

4.7/5

Strengths

  • Readiness checklists and templates that structure preparation months before a process starts.
  • AI bidder engagement scoring and Q&A that scales to large bidder pools.
  • Strong governance and board tooling beyond the deal room.

Considerations

  • High entry price relative to any SMB use case.
  • Now part of the Datasite group; expect product overlap with Datasite and Firmex to be rationalized.
  • More workflow than most fundraising rooms need.
8Best SecureDocs alternative for pitch deck sharing

DocSend

DocSend made link-based deck sharing with view analytics famous and still has the largest founder mindshare in that niche. Its data room product is a lighter add-on, which is fine for a seed round and limiting for diligence.

Best for

Pre-seed and seed decks, investor updates, light fundraising rooms

Pricing

Per user, from $10/user/month; data rooms require higher tiers. See DocSend pricing

Ownership

Acquired by Dropbox in March 2021 for $165 million

Rating

4.6/5

Strengths

  • Familiar to nearly every VC; page-by-page deck analytics are excellent.
  • Simple link controls: email gating, expiry, download toggles.
  • Integrates with the Dropbox ecosystem.

Considerations

  • Per-user pricing gets expensive for a team, and data room features sit on higher tiers.
  • Permissions, Q&A and audit logs are not diligence-grade; buyers' counsel will ask for more.
  • Post-acquisition development has slowed; the product is feature-frozen in several areas.
9Closest like-for-like SecureDocs alternative

CapLinked

CapLinked occupies the same flat-fee, no-frills niche SecureDocs pioneered. It adds an API, DRM controls and a somewhat more modern interface, at a higher monthly price.

Best for

Small companies that liked SecureDocs and want the same shape of product with an API

Pricing

From $399/month. See CapLinked pricing

Ownership

Independent, Los Angeles

Rating

3.9/5

Strengths

  • Flat pricing, unlimited users on higher tiers, and an API SecureDocs never shipped.
  • FileProtect DRM with watermarking and remote revocation.
  • Simple setup comparable to SecureDocs.

Considerations

  • More expensive than SecureDocs for a similar feature depth.
  • Analytics and branding are basic; no custom domain on entry tiers.
  • Lower review scores than the rest of this list.
10Best SecureDocs alternative for accounting and legal client portals

ShareFile

ShareFile is a professional-services file exchange with an optional virtual data room module. CPA firms, law firms and wealth managers that already run client portals on it can add deal rooms without a second vendor.

Best for

Accounting and law firms, ongoing client document exchange with occasional diligence

Pricing

Per-user plans; the VDR module is quoted separately. See ShareFile pricing

Ownership

Built by Citrix, sold to Progress Software in 2024 for $875 million

Rating

4.1/5

Strengths

  • Very large installed base and mature integrations with Outlook, Microsoft 365 and accounting workflows.
  • E-signature and client request lists built in.
  • Compliance coverage for regulated professional services.

Considerations

  • The VDR module is an add-on, not the core product; analytics and permissions lag dedicated rooms.
  • Another recently acquired product with an integration-focused roadmap.
  • Per-user pricing scales poorly for large external reviewer groups.

SecureDocs alternatives for fundraising

A fundraising data room has a different job than a diligence room. You are not managing 40 bidders and 3,000 documents; you are trying to get 15 to 40 investors to engage with a deck, a financial model, a cap table and a handful of contracts, and you need to know who is actually reading. The features that matter are speed, branding, per-investor analytics and gating that does not add friction.

What investors expect in 2026

  • A single link, not a login. Investors abandon rooms that require account creation. Email verification or a click-through NDA is acceptable; a password reset flow is not.
  • Your domain, your brand. dataroom.yourstartup.com signals a company that has its house in order. A vendor subdomain signals a template.
  • Mobile-readable documents. Partners read on phones between meetings. SecureDocs has no mobile app; Papermark, DocSend and Digify render cleanly on mobile browsers.
  • Updated documents in place. When your model changes, replace the file behind the same link. Investors should never receive "v7 final FINAL" attachments.

What founders need on their side

  • Per-investor, per-page analytics. Knowing that a fund's associate opened the room but no partner has is the difference between a follow-up email and a wasted week. This is Papermark's core strength and SecureDocs' biggest gap.
  • Viewer groups for stages. Lead investors get the full room; a syndicate gets the summary folder; a strategic gets nothing until the term sheet is signed.
  • Predictable cost over a 6 to 9 month raise. $149 month-to-month (or $1,188 for a year, the same numbers in EUR) versus $3,000 committed annually up front is not a small difference for a pre-revenue company.

SecureDocs alternatives for due diligence

Due diligence is where SecureDocs' limits show fastest. A buyer's legal, financial and technical teams will ask for full-text search, structured Q&A, redaction and an audit log that survives a dispute. Below is how the alternatives split across the three most common diligence scenarios.

Sell-side diligence

The seller prepares the room, usually with an advisor, and invites two to ten buyers. The priorities are folder-level permissions per buyer group, watermarks, download controls and clean audit logs. Papermark handles this at $99 per month with unlimited rooms, group-level permissions and enterprise-grade security at any deal size; iDeals is the step up when buyers demand a formal Q&A module; Firmex is the choice when a regulated buyer needs SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA attestations in the vendor due diligence questionnaire.

Buy-side and investor diligence

Venture and growth investors increasingly run their own diligence rooms to collect documents from a target and share them with co-investors and counsel. Here the requirements are request tracking, version control and the ability to spin up a new room per deal without a new contract. Papermark's unlimited rooms and API make it the natural fit; iDeals and Firmex work but you pay per project. See Best data room for PE due diligence for larger buy-side processes.

Customer, vendor and compliance diligence

Enterprise customers asking for your SOC 2 report, pen-test results and insurance certificates is a diligence process too, just a recurring one. SecureDocs users often keep a room open all year for this. Papermark's free and Pro tiers cover it at a fraction of the cost, with NDA gating so security documents are never sent as attachments. Digify is a good alternative when the concern is preventing forwarding of a specific document.

Pricing comparison: what a real process costs

Vendor price pages hide the number that matters: total cost for one complete process. The table below estimates a 9-month combined fundraising and diligence process for a 10-person company with about 5,000 pages of documents and 30 external viewers. Figures use the entry pricing published on this site or, for quote-based vendors, the midpoint of ranges reported by customers.

Estimated 9-month cost, 10 team members, ~5,000 pages, 30 external viewers
VendorPricing modelEstimated 9-month costUnlimited users?Notes
SecureDocsFlat, annual$3,000 (annual minimum)YesPaid up front, no monthly option below $400/mo
PapermarkFlat, monthly or annual$1,188 annual ($1,341 month-to-month)3 team members, unlimited viewersUnlimited rooms, custom domain, self-host option; Plus tier ($249/mo) adds Q&A and audit export
iDealsQuote, per project~$1,350 to $4,500Admin-capped, unlimited guestsCore estimate; Premier costs more
DigifyPer user, monthly~$1,260 to $2,500NoData room features on higher tiers
CapLinkedFlat, monthly~$3,600On higher tiersSimilar shape to SecureDocs
DocSendPer user, monthly~$900 to $6,000NoData rooms need Advanced tier
FirmexQuote, project or annual~$5,000 to $15,000YesDepends on data volume and term
DatasiteQuote, per page~$3,000 to $10,000+YesAbout $0.60 per page plus platform fee
AnsaradaSubscriptionNot publishedYesQuote-based entry
IntralinksQuote, per deal$10,000 to $50,000+YesPer-page terms on some contracts

The takeaway is not that cheaper is better. It is that the cost gap between SecureDocs and enterprise vendors is 3x to 15x, while the gap between SecureDocs and Papermark runs the other way: you pay about 60 percent less and get analytics, branding and unlimited rooms SecureDocs cannot provide.

Who owns your data room: the acquisition map

SecureDocs is the clearest example of why ownership matters, but it is not the only VDR to change hands. Six of the ten alternatives above have been acquired in the last decade. Consolidation is not automatically bad, but it does predict slower roadmaps for the acquired product and fewer independent choices in three years' time.

How to migrate from SecureDocs

  1. Export everything. SecureDocs supports bulk download of the full folder tree. Do this before your renewal date; access ends when the subscription does.
  2. Export the audit log. Download the activity report for every room. Buyers and auditors may ask for it later, and it will not be available after cancellation.
  3. Rebuild the structure, not the mess. Use the move as a chance to adopt a standard diligence index (corporate, financial, legal, commercial, HR, IP, IT). Papermark's AI structure generator and iDeals' templates both start from one.
  4. Recreate viewer groups deliberately. Map SecureDocs users to groups (lead investor, syndicate, buyer A, buyer B, counsel) rather than re-inviting individuals with identical rights.
  5. Set gating once. Apply NDA or email verification at the room level, then relax it per folder for public materials like the deck.
  6. Re-send links, retire old ones. Send new links from the new platform and disable the SecureDocs room the same day so analytics are not split across two systems.
  7. Cancel in writing. Onit's contracts inherit SecureDocs' annual terms. Confirm the non-renewal in writing at least 30 days before the anniversary.

Bottom line

SecureDocs solved the pricing problem in virtual data rooms a decade ago and then stopped. Since the Onit acquisition in 2022 it has been a stable but static product inside a company whose attention is on contract management. That is fine for a locked folder. It is not fine for a founder who needs to know which investor read the model, or for a seller whose buyer expects full-text search, Q&A and exportable audit logs.

For most teams reading this, Papermark is the right replacement: it keeps the simplicity and the transparent price, adds the analytics and branding that make a fundraising room useful, scales into diligence of any size with enterprise security, permissions, NDA gating and audit logs, and, because the code is open source, removes vendor risk entirely. Choose iDeals when structured Q&A across many bidders is non-negotiable, Firmex when a regulated counterparty needs its certifications, and Datasite or Intralinks only when a bank is running the process and the fee is someone else's problem.

Frequently asked questions

Is SecureDocs still an independent company?

No. SecureDocs was acquired by Onit in January 2022. Onit is a legal operations and contract lifecycle management vendor backed by K1 Investment Management. The SecureDocs VDR, ContractWorks and ReadySign are now sold as part of Onit's portfolio.

How much does SecureDocs cost in 2026?

SecureDocs lists a flat fee of $250 per month on an annual plan (about $3,000 per year) or $400 per month billed quarterly, with unlimited users and documents. There is a 14-day free trial. By comparison, Papermark's Data Rooms plan is $99 per month on annual billing, with a permanent free tier.

What is the best SecureDocs alternative for fundraising?

Papermark. It is a secure, modern data room with per-investor, page-level analytics, custom domains, NDA gating and unlimited data rooms from $99 per month. DocSend is a reasonable option for deck sharing alone but its data room features sit on expensive higher tiers and its development has slowed since the Dropbox acquisition.

What is the best SecureDocs alternative for due diligence?

Papermark covers permissions, watermarking, NDA gating, enterprise-grade security and exportable audit logs at a fraction of enterprise pricing, at any deal size. For multi-bidder processes that require a formal Q&A module, iDeals is the strongest mid-market choice. For regulated counterparties, Firmex's SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and HIPAA coverage is the safest answer.

Does SecureDocs have page-level analytics?

No. SecureDocs records folder and file activity (views, downloads, logins) but does not report time spent per page or per-investor engagement. Papermark, DocSend and Datasite all provide page-level analytics.

Does SecureDocs have an API or a mobile app?

No. SecureDocs offers neither an API nor a native mobile app. Papermark, CapLinked, iDeals, Firmex, Datasite and Intralinks all offer APIs; Firmex, iDeals and Intralinks offer native mobile apps, and Papermark renders fully in mobile browsers.

Which SecureDocs alternatives are owned by the same company?

Firmex, Datasite and Ansarada are all owned by Datasite Global Corporation, which is backed by CapVest Partners. Datasite acquired Firmex in July 2021 and Ansarada in August 2024. Intralinks is owned by SS&C Technologies, DocSend by Dropbox, and ShareFile by Progress Software.

Can I self-host a virtual data room instead of using SecureDocs?

Yes, with Papermark. It offers a self-hosted deployment on your own infrastructure (the code is open source), which is valuable for regulated companies and for anyone who wants insurance against a vendor being acquired or discontinued. No other vendor in this guide offers self-hosting.

Is SecureDocs secure enough for M&A?

SecureDocs uses AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS in transit, with NDA gating and audit logs. That is sufficient for many SMB transactions. Larger buyers often require SOC 2 Type 2 reports, redaction tools, granular permissions and full-text search, which is where Firmex, iDeals, Datasite or Papermark are stronger.

How long does it take to migrate from SecureDocs?

For a typical fundraising or SMB diligence room of a few hundred documents, most teams complete the export, restructure and re-invite process in half a day. Export the full folder tree and audit log before your subscription ends, rebuild viewer groups on the new platform, and retire the old links the same day.
